>> i think joe just needs to be joe. >> paul ryan set to clear any confusion about the romney/ryan ticket. >> i'm a pro-life candidate, i'll be a pro-life president. >> our position is consistent and hasn't changed. >> he can't clear up confusion on his own budget. >> i don't have the time -- it would take me too long to go through all the math. >> oh, brother. just spin already. >> i just got to ask what's your personal best? >> 1under three. >> holy smoke. >> i stand by what i said, whatever it was. >>> we are pumped up, fired up, and jacked up with just hours until tonight's first and only face-off between vice president joseph biden and vice presidential nominee paul ryan. and what was once regarded as a popcorn side show has taken on far greater significance in the wake of the president's less than scintillating performance last week. democrats are anxious, republicans are hungry for a surge, and as ryan and biden take the stage tonight, they have a chance to influence this election at a volatile moment. and the president himself knows he's got to push harder against his ever-shiftin

it was in pressing ryan, ryan couldn't say. he said i don't really have time to explain the math. and i think in this coming week's debate with joe biden, that is going to be a question that joe biden is going to ask him over and over again and give him all the time in the world to explain what deductions he would get rid of. when you look at this rate that he's talking about, there's a lot of money that's going to people at the upper end. it's very hard to offset their tax cut. even if you took away all their deductions. >> the the latest column, you posed the question, does our presidential campaign lack a moral core? what did you mean by that? >> i was struck in the debate that there was very little passion and absolutely no passion for the poor. and that's why i love the nuns on the bus. they are not assuming with the middle class people don't care at all about poor people or low income people. they are saying we as a country ought to care about them. i'd love to see a politician say what fdr said. better the occasional faults of a government that lives in a spirit of charity

ryan two is another issue. they were debating ryan one. do you think this is going to be a problem with seniors and the vote in florida and other key states? >> i don't think so. i think the romney ticket is winning on that issue and it's just uncontested that the administration takes money out of medicare, $700 billion to pay for obama care. you know, seniors understand that medicare needs to be reformed and there are reforms proposed from the left, reforms proposed from the right but they all have the point of saving medicare. making medicare stronger except what the president did with obama care. >> romney takes the same $716 billion out. the same number. >> the ryan plan is designed to make medicare stronger and it does it along the lines of medicare advantage and part d. it does it by giving seniors more choices and counting on them to police the waste and the fraud in the system and that's worked very well with medicare advantage and medicare part d. aimed at saving medicare. obama care takes money out of medicare to pay for a progra
